The scientific study "The Performance Pyramid" shows the interconnections between the 4 levels of the human being: bodily, emotional, mental and spiritual.
It has been known since Ayurveda - for over 5000 years.
Moreover, in 400 B.C.E. it also appears in Plato's Dialogues. Socrates stated that Thracian physicians believed that: "The soul in particular must be cared for, if the rest of the body and the head are to do well"
But it was not scientifically proven until 2001, in a study published in the Harvard Business Review.
We have briefly analyzed the results of this study - very important for companies around the world - in the 3rd meeting with Oana Scarlat, Marketing Director of the training company Exec-Edufor members of their community.
After the almost 6-minute video, you can find the main ideas below on the page:
And it is only when we are physically and emotionally balanced that we become mentally peak performers.
That doesn't mean that our IQ increases, because it can't. But it does mean that then we can work to the maximum capacity that we have.
This was the reason why many companies in the US, Australia, New Zealand started to invest in corporate wellness programs. They realized that it's useless to invest in specialized training if employees don't know how to manage their emotions and are not physically balanced so that they can perform mentally as expected.
And the last level is the Spiritual: our purpose in life, our appetite to get involved in activities that bring us soulful joys (which have nothing to do with the material side), only with the fulfillment of the soul.
The pyramid has been scientifically proven to help increase employee performance in the workplace. But it can be applied to any axis of our lives. The more balanced we are on the 4 levels: bodily, emotional, mental and spiritual, the better we will perform in our relationships with everyone around us: family, friends, colleagues, partners.
