Six Senses

The renowned luxury and lifestyle brand from the IHG portfolio, Six Senses, has announced, after much trial and error, that its first UK property will launch in the summer of 2025.

Six Senses London will include 109 rooms, 14 suites, a flagship spa and the world's first private Six Senses Place Club.

Guests will enjoy a variety of dining options and an innovative spa designed to evoke the atmosphere of a classic London Underground station.

The spa will embody the dynamic contrasts of urban life, combining the energy of the city with tranquil spaces reminiscent of parks or cafes. Amenities include a 3,500-square-meter fitness area, a 20-meter indoor pool, an Alchemy Bar and a relaxation room with grand vaulted ceilings.

In addition to the spa, Six Senses London will introduce its first membership concept, Six Senses Place, which will combine dedicated wellness services with community and socializing facilities. This exclusive club will include a central bar and lounge, coworking spaces, a restaurant and wellness and treatment rooms.

Restoring an iconic building

The Six Senses London project started with the £1 billion (€1.2 billion) renovation of the Whiteley building, transforming the former department store into a mixed-use destination.

Originally opened by the entrepreneur William Whiteley in 1863 as a textile shop, Whiteley's department store became a cultural institution, being considered "a huge symposium of the arts and industries of the nation and the world". In the 1980s, it was transformed into a shopping center, complete with a movie theater and bowling alley, before closing in December 2018.

This ambitious restoration is being led by development manager Finchatton, in partnership with MARK and CC Land, and the design is by Foster + Partners, known for their green approach.

In addition, British luxury health club operator Third Space will open a state-of-the-art 34,000-square-meter, three-storey, 34,000-square-foot fitness center as part of the wider development.
