NOW is the best time for spas. The crisis will force spas to refocus on what has become vital to the population of the entire globe - physical and mental health. Basically, spas need to return to their most natural mold, as places where health is protected, improved and defended.

OVERCOMING THE CRISIS. SHORT GUIDE:

General measures:

  • Be one step ahead of the authorities' opening signal.
  • Stay connected with what the global and national SPA associations are saying on crisis management
  • Be ready with materials and everything you need for protection and spacing.
  • I hope you have and will continue to keep all staff close. Especially in times of crisis, the success of all your endeavors will depend to a great extent on how you manage to mobilize your people.
  • Communicate, communicate, communicate! EFFICIENT!

Re-opening for treatments:

If you haven't already,

  • COMMUNICATE THE HYGIENE AND PREVENTION PROCEDURES TO THE PUBLIC, both for the staff who will perform the treatments and for the client, so that guests know exactly what to expect and re-gain confidence. Make sure staff are well trained in this.
  • Evaluate treatment spaces, circulation to and from these spaces back to safe places. You may have to rearrange or even close some rooms permanently until the pandemic has passed. CREATE SAFE CIRCUITS!
  • NEW THERAPIES. You really need to review the menu of services. Select/adapt treatments from the menu to offer them safely and according to the new needs that people are experiencing in these pandemic times. Rewrite your procedures in line with new rules of hygiene and disease prevention. IS THE BEST TIME FOR INNOVATION. Pandemic, isolation has changed and is changing the world, health needs and perceptions.  
  • Check stocks of products that have probably lain untouched during the lock-down period. Find solutions and offer options to use up these stocks profitably.
  • Adjust treatment prices quickly and appropriately

*Reserve for any access

*Do not open unless you have water disinfection systems that are not pandemic safe, check with DSP.

* Adjust water sampling intervals

  • For the facilities inside: BE READY WITH SAFE CIRCUITS
  • COMMUNICATE. As for the dry area treatments, communicate procedures for hygiene and prevention
  • Depending on the structure of each spa, sections of the wet area (pools + saunas) can be created for easier coordination and management
  • RESERVE on each section
  • Have spa attendant on each section
  • Financially assess what the effort of keeping the facilities/each section in operation will mean, for correct phasing decisions for re-opening, until fully open and in balance with the occupancy of the facilities that will be allowed. Work various variations from time to time, until the rules are imposed by the authorities.
  • AIR SYSTEMS- you need to know exactly which are safe/unsafe, recommended/not recommended, for the given situation. Find solutions on each section, if needed, to ensure quality air

*Do not open facilities that cannot prevent illness

*Alocate sufficient staff for cleaning and disinfection

* Be prepared with all necessary materials/substances/equipment for hygiene and prevention
